My Duty is to My Heart

Once upon a time, there was a girl dreaming of a happy ever after; wishing for a knight who will save her from distress, a prince who will conquer the worlds for her, and a man who will love her against all odds. However, that was then. This is now. The girl realized, fairytales will stay as fairytales and reality remains reality. Both are worlds apart, but one can’t erase the fact that fairytales brought significant deals about reality.
Lesson number one: One alone is not enough, you need both together. “You need two to tango” and “It takes two sides of a coin”- cliché? These are the lines that have been worn out. Nevertheless, these are the lines that will always be right. In a relationship, both need to function. Both falls paralyzed whenever one gets injured. Hence, to keep the relationship going, the two needs to work it out even if difference comes in the line. As science states, different signs attract; the more it is far different, the stronger they make a bond.
In every relationship, there will always be a Mushu. It might test your bond a hundred times, but in the end, it tends to strengthen not just love but also the lovers themselves. No matter how difficult it is to hold onto the rope, every sacrifice is of worth. Even if one’s life is on the line, you’ll take a risk in the name of love. That is what we call unconditional love. Our almighty Father has expressed such after sacrificing His only son in order to save all of us. The weight of sacrifice doesn’t need to be counted, appreciation does matters.
“My duty is to my heart.” These are Mulan’s words that keep echoing in my mind. At first, I haven’t grasped what she meant. But as the three princesses come to realize the same thing, I did likewise. No matter how difficult the situation is, trust your heart and it will lead you to the right path. The path you belonged to. Follow your heart- this has been always the words that comes out from our mouths whenever someone asked for advice. It’s easy for us to break those advices because it’s the real deal based on our experiences. It is no happiness when decisions from heart opposes.
I haven’t experience such romance like what Mulan have, but if I do, I won’t hold onto my dream of a happy ending because I believe, true love never ends. I wait for a prince charming no more, or any knight in shining armor riding in a white horse. However, I anticipate for a General Shang who will love me for who I am who will fight for me till eternity.
37,000. 10, 000, 000. 7,300,000. Large figures? Yes, and alarming as well. According to the United Nations Population Fund, everyday, 37,000 girls are married before age 18 and 10 million early marriages recorded every year. Meanwhile 7.3 million children are born from mothers aged 18 and below. Consequently, Dodong and Teang are included in these figures. Why do such things happen? Why do such things keep on repeating? Will we wait another million Dodong and Teang? “Life has a way of testing a person’s will, either by having nothing happen at all or by having everything happen at once.”
