Odysseus (reflection)

Here is this exemplary man who deserved to be admired for a lot of things. Even though he has been through a lot, his values never falter. Standing still and strong in order to defeat the trials coming over his way, he became someone being looked up to. No matter what happens, his desire to return home haven’t weaver. He is no perfect however; he has flaws that some leaders must not embody. But, no one can’t deny, Odysseus is still worth the awe.
The Legal Wife has been making noise not just in the television but in the networking sites as well. Not because of its artists portraying the role but the story of an unfaithful husband who’s definitely far different from Odysseus. Being a man of his words, he did things one can’t imagine. Even though a lot of women came after him, his mind and heart remains to Penelope, his wife. True that he have slept with some women but he was just obliged to do so in order to stay alive. The fact that women are men’s weakness, Odysseus fell in love to none of them. He is real tough after all- worth applause. If we exemplify how Odysseus disallows to ride with temptations, we won’t get defeated with sins.
Warriors are known for their bravery and might. Likewise, Odysseus is ideally a courageous fighter for not only during the Trojan War he fought but even on his way home he has still been facing numerous battles. Getting away from the Lotus eaters, blinding the giant cyclop, being blown by the tremendous wind, outwitting the sirens, escaping from Calypso- he’s through all that and yet, he is still alive. His perseverance and strength evidently saved him but his intelligence and wit made it all possible. And with the heart to make the return just as he promised, he survived it all still in one piece. We are all fighters and if we wanted to survive in this game called life, we need to wear a helmet of wisdom, a belt of faith and the sword of strength.
During the voyage on their way home, flaws of being inconsiderate and selfish leader were being exhibited. He didn’t listen to what his men tell him. Pursuing his wants, he disregards their word even if it concerns their safety. Great power comes great responsibility- as a leader he must have empathized them in order to maintain a harmonious relationship because your members are your responsibility and obligation.
According to Homer, of all creatures that breathe and move upon the earth, nothing is bred that is weaker than man. This statement was justified by how Oddyseus made it out alive. None of us hence get defeated once we believe in ourselves that we can do it. We can only see our real strength once we believe because it’s not to see is to believe but to believe is to see.

I can. Can't I?

I command not. I reprimand not. I lead not. Why on earth have I been elected in such position? I demand not to be but I can't do what I wanted against majority's decision. Honestly, I really am afraid. Afraid from a lot of different consequences this position results to. I can't even remember when I last place my phone, how much for the series of events and things to do which regards to my responsibility. Another thing that frightens me is the failure of my leadership because I am not persuasive at all. I just go with the flow of everybody and it is really a heavy thing for me to stand for my own decision knowing that many might get affected with it. I thought I was brave enough to face a number of trials, but hell no! I am too coward to run from this state. Being under pressure is my weakness, it affects not just my performance but also my personality. At this current, this thing is my fear and my burden.

What I said is bullshit; that's what I think and what I feel, I couldn't go against that. But, I guess I am the real bullshit. People trust me but I don't trust myself. How f*cking idiot am I? They put me in this place because they know I can. God gave me this task because He knows I can. I must deal with this because I think I can.

Must have been Love

For now, love will triumph. Later, it’s life.
For now, love will triumph. Later, it’s life. For now, love will triumph. Later, it’s life. I have been repeating these lines in my head over and over but only a single thought came in; couples making love will of course create life afterwards. That was no joke, and that was no wrong either, but I guess I was just being so literal. On the verge of that idea, I realized, there was something even bigger, something more plausible and something more significant to be pondered.
Love is something beyond emotion; its power makes million impossible things possible. The fact that no one can definitely provide its definition, it remains uncontrollable yet controlling, for it leads someone does things further than he used to. It happened to be the most dominant feeling, ruling over one’s mind and even leads it to insanity. But, do I have the right to discuss such things about love where in fact I am one of the no-boyfriend-since-birth-non-romantic-girls? Well, though it seems I don’t, I already have. I can be blind no more to the things I thought was just a thought. Right before me, I see more than the number of my fingers of relatives and friends who belong to the million figures who bears child at a young age. Figures that actually points to what they call love. Then would I just remain a witness of their suffering? a spectator of their regret? an audience of their agony? Though I can do nothing for the things in the past, I won’t let a sequel in the future; I couldn’t afford to include the number of my toes in the count anymore.
Like most other girls, they also have dreams and goals in life; dreams that vanished because of a single mistake; the mistake they had after falling in love without the consideration of tomorrow. We have the pleasure of freedom but we are not supposed to exceed our limitations. Lovers not yet sanctified ought to linger to what’s right. Time is gold, but patience is a virtue. One can’t stop what one feels but with virtue, one can put a halt to what love further entails. It’s always taking one step at a time because if you don’t, you’ll surely stumble and fall. A scar is embedded then on your flesh reminding you what if you haven’t took haste? What if I have listened to the pieces of advice made by everybody? What if you don’t have to ask yourself the most dangerous question, what if?
Waiting for the right time means a big deal but I ensure you, it’s worth the wait. In no doubt, dreams are just of reach. The life you’ve been aiming for throughout the years is just one knock ahead. Let not this door get passed through you and without a second thought you are a victor of living the life you love and loving the life you live.

Rebirth (Like a Molave)

Crimes made by minors are too rampant to be unnoticed. Theft and murder are just few of the offences they have committed against their own fellowmen.  Have they been locked up in jail of what they have done? Have they been persecuted of what they did? Have they suffered the pain their victims endured? No- they are freed and protected by the law. Consequently, they fear not. These young individuals of the present further obliterate the name of Rizal who defined them as the nation’s hope by remaining under another’s wings; staying parasitic, frivolous, indolent and inefficient. Indeed, the youth is a bitter pill to swallow.  With the eyes that witness these obnoxious events however, will we continue lighting candles in the wind? Will we not ignite the fire of rebirth?
The answer lies not just in the hands of the concerned but it also takes the palm of the involved. The society and the youth themselves must work hand in hand to be able to make the difference we’ve been longing for; the difference that will justify the works of our forefathers who might have already hauled them over the coals. Tolerating and considering their mistake is no beneficial to both sides. One must make them realize they are not a free caste who can do what they want to do. Everything has its consequences to be faced.
If only they have been sent to school, if only they have been educated, if only they were morally taught as well; there would be no fingers pointed at them at this being then. Hence, education for all is evidently what is shouted by many. Access to free knowledge must be implemented throughout the nation. Yes- it has been one of the government’s priorities. But why are there minors carrying a heavy basket of cabbages in the market instead of writing in a paper at school? Selling a box of mineral water along the streets instead of reading books? Knock Knock to the administration.
People often say “wala ka’y pulos!” Psychologically, the young ones believe it, do it and live with it. Instead of continually belittling and criticizing them for being this and that, why not give them encouragement to prove they may stumble and fall but will always rise and stand again. In this fresh beginning, their minds and hearts just need a little push, and a little trust. It is not to see in order to believe that they can, it is to believe that they can in order for us to see. Because like the Molave, it just need a keen sea rch to be visible.  Furthermore, opportunities must be provided for them to show what they got; put them in the field where they’ll shine.
Far different from the past’s youth, I spoke without taking into consideration that I am one of today’s. I may not be one of those who held knife in their hands or stole wallets from other’s pockets but I am a youth of today. I may not be one of those out-of-school-youth but I am a youth of today. But instead of boasting that off, I am doing my best to give justice to the name of our ancestors. In addition, I who’s blessed enough share what I learned to those who are not. Being a role model to them is the best thing that I can do for them to realize they are not just that, they are something worth being proud of.
“The Youth is the hope of the nation”-Jose Rizal. So cliché, yet it has been remarkable through ages. It is better not to remain remarkable however; it must be lived with by everybody. By being the hope of one another, the youth deserves the light of rebirth. To believe is to see. Just keep holding on. We’ll witness the difference at dawn.

My Duty is to My Heart

Once upon a time, there was a girl dreaming of a happy ever after; wishing for a knight who will save her from distress, a prince who will conquer the worlds for her, and a man who will love her against all odds. However, that was then. This is now. The girl realized, fairytales will stay as fairytales and reality remains reality. Both are worlds apart, but one can’t erase the fact that fairytales brought significant deals about reality.
Lesson number one: One alone is not enough, you need both together. “You need two to tango” and “It takes two sides of a coin”- cliché? These are the lines that have been worn out. Nevertheless, these are the lines that will always be right. In a relationship, both need to function. Both falls paralyzed whenever one gets injured. Hence, to keep the relationship going, the two needs to work it out even if difference comes in the line. As science states, different signs attract; the more it is far different, the stronger they make a bond.
In every relationship, there will always be a Mushu. It might test your bond a hundred times, but in the end, it tends to strengthen not just love but also the lovers themselves. No matter how difficult it is to hold onto the rope, every sacrifice is of worth. Even if one’s life is on the line, you’ll take a risk in the name of love. That is what we call unconditional love. Our almighty Father has expressed such after sacrificing His only son in order to save all of us. The weight of sacrifice doesn’t need to be counted, appreciation does matters.
“My duty is to my heart.” These are Mulan’s words that keep echoing in my mind. At first, I haven’t grasped what she meant. But as the three princesses come to realize the same thing, I did likewise. No matter how difficult the situation is, trust your heart and it will lead you to the right path. The path you belonged to. Follow your heart- this has been always the words that comes out from our mouths whenever someone asked for advice. It’s easy for us to break those advices because it’s the real deal based on our experiences. It is no happiness when decisions from heart opposes.
I haven’t experience such romance like what Mulan have, but if I do, I won’t hold onto my dream of a happy ending because I believe, true love never ends. I wait for a prince charming no more, or any knight in shining armor riding in a white horse. However, I anticipate for a General Shang who will love me for who I am who will fight for me till eternity.
37,000. 10, 000, 000. 7,300,000. Large figures? Yes, and alarming as well. According to the United Nations Population Fund, everyday, 37,000 girls are married before age 18 and 10 million early marriages recorded every year. Meanwhile 7.3 million children are born from mothers aged 18 and below. Consequently, Dodong and Teang are included in these figures. Why do such things happen? Why do such things keep on repeating? Will we wait another million Dodong and Teang? “Life has a way of testing a person’s will, either by having nothing happen at all or by having everything happen at once.”
